Super Audio CD - SACD
Introduced in 1999, the Super Audio CD, or SACD for short, is a high fidelity recording manufactured by Sony and Phillips electronics. Unlike the "regular" CD, a SACD release uses 64 times the sampling rate which produces a superior sound. To truly take advantage of the sound encoded on a SACD disc, a special SACD player must be purchased.
